Papers, 1893-1972.

This collection contains many of Alex Hitz's business and personal papers. This includes social security records, tax returns, military records, and general business papers (both private practice and city commission). Hitz also assembled a "Compilation of the State's grantees to all Land Lots in Fulton County". There is a family history and some genealogy records as well. Hitz's collection of programs from various Atlanta theaters has been preserved also.

Alex Hitz was born on May 16, 1893 in Washington D.C. He graduated from Georgetown's School of Law in 1915. Hitz served in the U.S. Army between 1918 and 1919 and was an active member of the Reserves Corps thereafter. Alex Hitz and Elizabeth Crawford were married in June of 1920. Hitz practiced law in Atlanta for approximately 50 years, both privately and as the special assistant to the Fulton County Attorney. He was distantly related to J.
